Where it started
Nivi was looking at her climbing pothos one afternoon and felt the familiar split feeling: pride that the plant was doing so well, and quiet dissatisfaction with everything holding it up. The stakes were functional. The trellis was generic. Nothing in that pot matched the care she'd put into the plant itself.
She looked around. She couldn't find what she wanted — not in India, not really. Something designed with the same attention you'd give a piece of furniture. Something made from real materials, that would age well, that you wouldn't hide when guests came over.
So she made it herself.
When the first trellis came off the laser cutter and went into her plant, she knew she was onto something. It looked right. It felt right. The plant looked better for it. Picassow grew from that afternoon.
The name
Picassow: Picasso and Sow, fused at the w.
Picasso — because design is a practice, not an accident. Because art belongs in everyday objects, not just on gallery walls. Sow — because growing things is an act of faith and patience. The brand is the place where those two things meet.
From sketch to shelf
Every Picassow piece begins as a sketch — a shape, a motif, a piece of geometry with a function built into it. The design is tested, refined, and prepared for cutting. Then it goes to the laser.
The CNC laser cutter holds tolerances that hands alone cannot maintain, cuts details that would take a skilled woodworker hours, and produces an edge that is clean and consistent on every piece. After cutting, each piece is reviewed by hand. Edges checked. Surfaces felt. Anything that doesn't meet the standard doesn't leave the studio.
For hand-painted pieces, Nivi works on each one individually. The colour is applied in layers. No two painted pieces are identical. This is not a flaw. It is the point.
Picassow is founded and run by Nivi. She designs the products, finishes the painted pieces, and makes the decisions. The brand reflects her taste, her standards, and her belief that beautiful functional objects are worth making carefully.
